Meet the US Presidents – move than you ever wanted to know

You think you know a  thing or two about the President of the USA?  Mr. President?  The Commander in Chief?

There’s a lot to know.  The President makes $400,000 per year.  He or she lives in the White House.  And nine of them have achieved the role simply by being the Vice President during death of a President.  With the election of Joe Biden in 2020, we have had a total of 46 U.S. Presidents (one of them was elected twice and considered the 24th and 26th President – no spoilers though!).

Who was the best President?  That’s a matter of opinion.  Who was the worst President?  Also a matter of opinion, but scholars seem to typically align with James Buchanan as consistently at the bottom.  James who?  James Buchanan was the President of the United States immediately preceding the Civil War.  The country was in a bad spot with south threatening to secede over issues of slavery and the overall economic prosperity that it brought.  President Buchanan had the opportunity to bring the country together, or if that wasn’t possible, to take a decisive stand as Lincoln did after him.  Instead, Buchanan stoked the fires of division.  He was from Pennsylvania, but he sympathized with the south.  He filled his cabinet with southerners, and he made no meaningful progress in the debate over slavery.  He empowered the racist beliefs of southern slave owners who were then enraged when Lincoln, an abolitionist, was elected.  At that point, civil war was ineveitable.  You know the rest.

Fortunately, the United States has also been led by great presidents – men of integrity, bravery and trust.  Perhaps no one is an embodiment of the greatness that the presidency deserves than George Washington himself.  Not only did he serve in battle prior to the presidency, but he viewed the presidency as a position of servitude – not power – towards he fellow Americans.  So here we go – 46 men over 250 years for us to pull some crazy awesome and crazy difficult presidential trivia.
